arrow   LUCHI CRUZ-VALDES
Virtually documenting the country’s history of the last 30 years, LUCHI CRUZ-VALDES has earned a depth of insight and breadth of knowledge from her body of works. Over the last 30 years, Luchi has been conferred several distinctions, including KBP’s 2001 Ka Doroy Brodkaster of the Year, Titus Brandsma Awardee for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, three medals at the New York Film and Television Festivals in 1990, 2000 and 2001, and 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award in Broadcast Journalism given by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA), among other recognitions in both local and international award-giving bodies. But for Luchi, her greatest work of pride is her having coached and mentored some of the most illustrious names in local broadcast journalism today. Of the budding NEWS5 reporters under her belt, Luchi has this to say: “They should look at journalism as a calling more than just a profession. Because part of being a journalist (is also the reason why they have to be with this calling) is really just do what it takes to be able deliver a story that will inform. And the information that you need to know is something that will have a bearing on the decision-making capacity of your viewers.”
